Shooting 11 music videos in one summer

There wasn’t much going on in the film industry in 2021. If you’re in lockdown or quarantine, it’s pretty difficult to make a movie. It’s well known that people come together on set. Admittedly, we were also really messing around during this time and didn’t get anything sensible done, just the bare minimum. We needed a fresh project, something exciting, something wild. And what’s wilder than a music video? Eleven music videos!

Music made for cinema

Luckily, Philippe aka Blue Bentu is a good friend of ours and also happens to be a gifted composer of electronic sounds. He recorded his first album over a long corona winter. At the same time, we produced the music video for Bodom.

The one music video was to remain the only one, as the budget was tight and Bodom was more of a portfolio project. But the music had caught us and we believed wholeheartedly in the bright musical future of Blue Bentu. So we decided to invest more time in the project and ten more music videos were to follow – in just one summer!

Dancing as a red thread

There should be dancing in each of the videos. Dancing free from annoying lockdowns seemed to us to be a good common thread. We wanted to express a summery attitude to life that we all felt but couldn’t express with words. Sometimes we interpreted the dance acrobatically like in Bodom, other times in a contemporary style like in Roma.

We no longer know exactly what drove us to produce eleven music videos in such a short time with a low budget: perhaps it was the economic standstill of a corona year that gave us time and space for new ideas. Perhaps it was the longing for a carefree summer evening that resonates in each of the videos and also in the music. Or maybe we just love producing music videos because they are a creative playground where you can let off steam visually and develop artistically.

There are probably many good reasons why art is created spontaneously and then has to go out into the world. We only know one thing: we love Blue Bentu’s music because it opens up a dreamy universe whose sounds could be the theme tune to many a great movie. Anyone who doubts this should listen to Planets, Philippe’s first album, once or perhaps twice while driving at night. Recommended track: Irlap!

We are extremely proud of Blue Bentu’s complete work of art, to which we were able to contribute the visual part and will soon be able to do so again. Blue Bentu is working on their second album and what’s even more exciting: a live set!
